Our Nashville Swim Community: Growing Together In and Out of the Pool

April 24, 2026

From the start, one of our goals at Nashville Swim Academy (NSA) was to create a swim program with a purpose that extends beyond the pool. Since 2013, a founding commitment has been to serve as a true community ambassador; an organization that would prioritize giving back in meaningful, lasting ways. More than a decade later, that commitment continues to shape everything we do.

Developing Skilled, Safe Swimmers One Lesson at a Time

As the premier learn-to-swim program in Middle Tennessee, NSA emphasizes identifying each swimmer's needs and building on that foundation. Our class sizes are small so that every child gets the one-on-one attention they need and deserve.

Our curriculum begins at the
Parent & Me level for babies and toddlers and progresses through Beginner levels for kids ages 2–6, Skill Builder levels for kids ages 3–11, and our TECHnique levels that carry swimmers aged 6 and up through increasingly refined stroke development. Each stage is thoughtfully sequenced so that no child is rushed, no milestone goes uncelebrated, and our swimmers develop an unshakeable belief in their ability to reach their goals.

By providing a safe, supportive, and welcoming environment, we've helped thousands of children across Nashville and Middle Tennessee grow from beginners into skilled, confident swimmers who understand how to stay safe at the pool, the lake, and beyond, creating a lifelong love of the water in the process.

Our mission is to provide the best environment for each student to build a positive, safe relationship with water. Every class we teach, every instructor we train, and every family we welcome is a reflection of that mission in action.

A Full-Circle Legacy: When Students Become the Teachers

One of the most meaningful milestones in our now 13-year history is the full-circle moments we experience as former students return to NSA to teach the next generation. Graduates of our program are now coming back as instructors, including two high schoolers who just recently joined our team.

This is the type of legacy we’d hoped to build. Watching youngsters who once stood at the edge of the pool, wide-eyed and uncertain, now guiding new swimmers with patience, passion, and enthusiasm. We’re extraordinarily proud that what we do here in
kids' swim classes in The Nations extends beyond the water so that the kinds of people who also want to give back are achieving their goals, too. This means everything to us.

Supporting Our Community Beyond the Pool: Swim Across America

One of the most rewarding expressions of our commitment to the community is our annual participation in Swim Across America, a national charity event that raises funds to support the fight against cancer. As a proud local partner within the Nashville chapter of Swim Across America, NSA swimmers take part in a relay-style event benefiting one of the region's most respected cancer research institutions.

Last year, Swim Across America Nashville raised over $105,000 for the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center, an achievement made possible by the dedication of swimmers, families, and supporters across our community. This year, we want to take this support to the next level. In June, we’ll be hosting a pool party event at our facility, with all proceeds going directly toward the totals raised by the relay team participants at the Ensworth Natatorium. It's our way of compounding the impact and rallying our
Nashville swim community around a cause that continues to touch so many lives. Whether you show up just to cheer or you bring the whole family for an afternoon of fun at our new, state-of-the-art pool, every contribution counts.

An Award-Winning Program Built on Enthusiasm and Expertise

Our NSA program was founded by Krysten Call, MSA, who comes from a family of swimmers and has spent her entire life in and around the water. At just 17 years old, Krysten found herself teaching her first swim lesson with no formal instruction, an early experience she calls her own “sink or swim” moment. In learning the ropes, Krysten soon understood that creating a positive experience for students in swimming is key.

This developed into a philosophy that distinguishes NSA from other programs. We make sure we meet each swimmer where they are, emotionally, physically, and developmentally, at every single class.

In 2024, readers of the Nashville Scene named NSA the #1 choice for
swim lessons Nashville TN, a distinction that belongs as much to our founder Krysten and our team of instructors as it does to every family who has trusted us to guide their children toward becoming safe, strong, confident swimmers.

Bob Deacon, a father and now grandfather of kids who passed through our program at NSA, recently left this five-star review: "Incredible spot!! So pleased my kids (and their kids) participate there!!!”

We are very grateful for the opportunity to grow alongside the wonderful families who have made Nashville Swim Academy their swim home. This sense of community is our crowning accomplishment, and we're just getting started.
