Swim Season Starts Now: Why Spring Is a Great Time to Enroll

March 10, 2026

Swim season has arrived! Of course, we view swim season as year-round. After all, there’s no bad time to get in the pool when the environment is right. Still, spring is the season of renewal, and with summer close behind, now’s a great time to enroll your little ones in small group swimming lessons at our new, state-of-the-art facility in The Nations.

At
Nashville Swim Academy (NSA), we’ve seen thousands of kids pass through our program, each gaining the confidence and skills they need to stay safe and have fun when swimming is part of the day’s activities.

As the premier learn-to-swim program in Middle Tennessee, we’ve designed a program that builds skills, confidence, and safety awareness in a fun, relaxed, wholly supportive environment. We’re passionate about introducing kids to a sport we love, and about providing them with the tools, instruction, and experiences that lead to a lifelong love of the water.

We’re excited about introducing beginner swimmers to a whole new world of enjoyment and recreation in the water. This is why we’ve named our first level of swim lessons the FUNdamentals level: classes that put the ‘FUN’ in ‘fundamentals.’

Within this vertical, we teach new swimmers the basics of the sport. Classes begin with Parent and Me for babies and toddlers ages 4 to 23 months. This is where parents actively engage with their child as they are introduced to a swimming pool environment, so kids feel comfortable and safe. Here, the focus is on safety, sensory exploration, and foundational skill-building.

The FUNdamentals level also includes Terrific 2, Beginner 3, and Beginner 4-6 classes, designed to help swimmers learn the basics of buoyancy, breath control, and movement in the water.

For kids aged 3 to 6 who can submerge comfortably in the water and flutter kick to move forward, classes at the SAFEty level teach them to adapt their buoyancy and breath-control skills for floating, gliding, and more. These classes are divided into Skill Builder 3s and Skill Builder 4 to 6s. Kids learn how to push off from the side of the pool, transition onto their front and back, and how to jump into the water and swim to a predetermined safety spot. Our swimmers also learn a swim-breathe-swim pattern using big arm movements and are now beginning to move in the water with more control and the semblance of strokes. By the end of this tier, kids are typically proficient at swimming from one side of the pool to the other, with smooth, fluid movements.

The SAFEty level is also the entry point for kids 7 to 11 who:

  • Lack confidence in the water.
  • Haven’t had a positive experience with lessons in the past.
  • Have only experienced swimming with floatation devices.
  • Can’t dunk underwater without it getting in their nose and mouth.

The goal in these classes is to help swimmers develop breath control, build confidence in the water, and submerge underwater successfully.

Since these kids are a little older, we keep a close eye out for any swimmers who exhibit signs of apprehension or fear. We work patiently and compassionately with those who may have had a bad experience in the past, reconditioning their association with the water through consistent positive reinforcement and helping them build confidence. Little by little, kids begin to let go of their fears and enjoy their lessons. This is when the magic happens. Kids who were once afraid of dunking underwater learn how to do so safely and successfully. Those who felt afraid to float suddenly master the skill. And when these kids overcome their anxieties and realize they had the capacity to achieve new skills all along, the joy in their eyes is incredibly rewarding.

The Benefit of Small Classes for Skills and Confidence Building

One of the things that distinguishes our program at NSA from others is our uncompromising focus on setting our swimmers up for success. Part of this means keeping our classes small. For our 2-year-olds, each class has two swimmers to one instructor. For our 3-year-olds, it’s three swimmers to one instructor, and for our 4-6 swimmers, it's four swimmers to one instructor. This approach ensures kids get the individual attention they need to feel comfortable, safe, and seen. Swimmers benefit from one-on-one attention and the instant feedback they need to adjust in the moment to build on their form.

We’re also careful to place kids in the most appropriate classes for their age, skills, and readiness, and are happy to speak with parents who are unsure about which level is best for their child. Kids learn alongside their peers, making the process more enjoyable and less intimidating, and it’s pretty exciting when they master a new skill.

Our instructors at NSA are highly trained, and they understand how important it is to meet a child where they are in their swimming journey. By demonstrating confidence in their swimmers’ abilities, kids gain this same level of confidence in themselves. With patience, support, and encouragement, we guide our swimmers forward in mastering their skills. And we never rush the swimming process. Instead, we break skill-building moments into small, manageable tasks that allow swimmers to succeed step by step. Every accomplishment is celebrated, reinforcing a child’s belief in themselves and building on their willingness to keep trying.

Our method equips kids with a can-do attitude, something that is just as important in the pool as it is in life. Kids learn that with practice, they can achieve their goals and that their peers and their instructor are rooting for them.

What Month Is Best to Start Swimming?

Many people assume that
swimming season begins when school lets out and temperatures rise. But if you’re thinking strategically about your child’s safety and success, any time is the right time to enroll in swimming lessons.

Spring at Nashville Swim Academy is one of our favorite times of year, because it’s when we open more opportunities than ever for families to get started.

We know how full calendars can feel. Between school, sports, activities, and family life, adding one more thing can seem overwhelming. That’s why this season at NSA is designed with flexibility in mind.

We are opening new classes on an ongoing basis, giving families more options and more start times than ever before. Whether you’re looking for a consistent weekly class to build skills over time, or a focused boost through one of our seasonal programs, there is a pathway that can fit your schedule.

In addition to our weekly year-round classes, enrollment is now open for:

These concentrated sessions are a great way to accelerate progress while still maintaining the structure and safety-first approach NSA is known for.

At Nashville Swim Academy, swimming isn’t just another activity; it’s a life skill. And we believe busy families deserve options that make it possible to prioritize water safety and confidence without adding stress.

If you’ve been waiting for the right time, this is it. With expanded class offerings and seasonal session options, there has never been more flexibility to make swimming part of your family’s routine.

Why Children Progress Faster in Pre-Summer Swim Lessons

During the school year and outside of Spring Break, families operate within predictable routines. Bedtimes are steady. Weekly schedules are structured. Children are already in a rhythm of listening, focusing, and progressing through lessons in other areas of their lives. That stability also transfers to the pool. By choosing this spring to enroll in the
swim classes Nashville, TN families trust, your child benefits from consistent structure. Unlike during summer, when everyone’s rushing to prepare for a beach trip or trying to squeeze lessons in between breakfast and camp, classes fit neatly into your established routines.

From there, your kids can progress into lessons throughout the summer, fall, and winter. That consistency prevents regression and supports skill retention, allowing swimmers to layer skills week after week without the long gaps that come with summer-only swim lessons.

It’s Spring: Everyone in the Pool!

If your child will be near lakes, pools, or any kind of aquatic environment this summer, preparation should begin now.

At our spectacular new facility in The Nations, we’ve created a space that sets a new standard in
Nashville swimming pools. Our 75-foot-long pool is heated to a comfortable 88° and features an advanced filtration system that keeps it crystal clear and clean. For parents, we’ve designed the ultimate viewing area so you can watch your kids participate in their lesson in comfort. It’s large, ventilated, and air-conditioned, and there’s even a play area for siblings not in lessons that day.

Make the most of spring with swim lessons that will develop into a lifelong love of the water.
